Article Summary: Coastal erosion accelerating in the UK (Sky News Mar 2024)

So, a post that summarises an article should really be shorter than said article. Tom Heap, respected environmental journalist and presenter of the Climate Show on Sky News summaries nicely the ongoing battle between the residents of Hemsby, Norfolk and the natural process occurring along the UK coast. While some reference is made to specific processes which are illustrated with some nice photographs, the key focus of the article is the problems created for those people who live right next to the coast as their homes become increasingly likely to be lost to the sea. Of particular interest is the angle that is taken about the value of the land that is being protected, and the experiences of those people who live in property that is not deemed valuable enough to protect. There is also a link directly to The Climate Show edition that contains a report that accompanies this article.

Readability

Generally, I find Sky News article flow well and are readable for examinable groups. Sometimes the use of narrative and story telling can make the writing a little more challenging for some students but with support these commentaries make the articles much more personable and relevant when considering human factors that are affected by the physical landscape. When reading the text on the Sky News website, there was significant distraction, sometimes with useful addition, including the great photographs, but also with other links, which are less helpful. However, creative souls amongst you can find a way to fix this!
